Following the launch of the Easy Access Basket (EAB) for a hot air balloon in May 2012, Burt & Davies developed a partnership with Scope Victoria which saw several Scope clients, including Lavourne Service, benefit from this innovative venture.
Scope Victoria, the former Spastic Children’s Society of Victoria, is one of the largest providers of services to people with a disability in Victoria, and one of the largest not-for-profit organisations in Australia. Their mission is to enable each person they support to live as an empowered and equal citizen. Scope aims to deliver quality and responsive services for people with a disability. Scope sees all people with a disability simply just as “people”. Scope seeks to provide ‘Scope For People With A Disability’ to live the lives that they choose.
As a result of our partnership with Scope we were kindly invited to attend the Scope “Be Inspired” Corporate Breakfast at the Crown Riverside Room to celebrate International Day of People with a Disability.
It was a wonderful morning and a celebration of the achievements of those with disabilities of various kinds. The morning was opened with the screening of the video of Lavourne Service’s balloon flight over Melbourne. Using the Burt & Davies and Global Ballooning EAB, Lavourne was finally able to achieve her life long goal to fly in a hot air balloon.
After the screening of the video there were very few dry eyes in the room. The absolute joy and delight expressed by Lavourne was inspirational and uplifting to all.
The guest speakers on the morning were the Honourable Bill Shorten, former Minister for Education and Minister for Workplace Relations and his wife, Chloe Bryce, daughter of the Governor-General of Australia, Quentin Bryce. They discussed a range of topics including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the necessary expansion of opportunities for those in our community with disabilities.
We are very grateful to Scope for hosting us as their guests at the breakfast. In continuation of our involvement with Scope we have donated three double hot air balloon flights over Melbourne, using the EAB. This will enable three individual Scope clients, together with a family member or carer, to enjoy the magic and wonder of lighter than air flight over Melbourne.
